European Climate Teach-In Day 2009 a Success
University lecturers and teachers from 265 institutions in more than 55 countries used the opportunity to download the climate content provided in the framework of the First European Climate Teach-In Day 2009. Over 12,000 students from universities and schools were involved in the initiative.

The organizers are pleased that this first Climate Teach-In Day has in fact reached students and staff from universities, schools and other research and education institutions well beyond the European area. A follow-up activity will be the “World Climate Teach-In Day”, to be held on Friday, the 4th June 2010.

Format

The "European Climate Teach-In Day" consists of:

  1. a set of presentation in English and Germany will be provided by some of the reknowned experts on climate change,
  2. a set of videos on the scientific, economic and social aspects of climate change which can be downloaded and a
  3. discussion forum which will be on-line for 24 hours during the period of the initiative.

In addition to lectures, participant schools and universities will be provided with a set of guiding questions which can then be discussed as well as with a film which can be shown whenever possible.

In order to keep the requirements as simple as possible, the lectures will be made available as power point presentations which may be downloaded by users. The videos will also be available for download.

The discussions forum over the course of the "European Climate Teach-In Day" will offer participants the chance to interact with the lecturers and and have first hand insights into the latest discussions on matters related to climate change at schools and universities around Europe. Whilst individuals, universities and schools will used the "European Climate Teach-In Day" for information, direct scientific and cooperation contacts between the participants will also be encouraged.

In addition to the lectures, participants of the "European Climate Teach-In Day" will have access to two further features of the International Climate Change Information Programme in Hamburg, namely the "Climate Change Studies Library" and the "Climate Projects Around the World". These will also be visited and their information and documents may be downloaded.
